Stenkullafors Power Station

Stenkullafors Power Station

Stenkullafors Power Station is located on the upper reaches of the Ångermanälven River, between the municipalities of Vilhelmina and Åsele. The station utilises a series of minor rapids stretching over a distance of some 40 kilometres. The largest has a head (drop) of about 5 metres; the remainder are smaller and spaced at considerable intervals. They are relatively minor sources of energy and the stretch in question was consequently the last to be exploited on the river, which is otherwise characterised by a succession of power stations from the mountain lakes to the sea.

The power station is equipped with one Kaplan turbine unit.
