The modern and efficient power plant comprises three CCGTs (combined cycle gas turbines). Every CCGT unit is composed of a gas turbine, a steam turbine and a generator. This technology ensures a very favourable output (about 58%). The power plant has a production capacity of 1,311 MW, enough to provide electricity to two million households a day.
Vattenfall's ambition for the future is to use gasification technology to convert coal and biomass into gas in combination with using carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) technology. Market conditions and a support base play a major role in the decision whether to invest in the development of this next phase.
