Vattenfall is constructing a solar park in Sas van Gent, a town located to the west of the canal that connects Ghent to Terneuzen, near the Belgian border.
The site encompasses an area of around 16 hectares, which has an agricultural character. Out of this, 12 hectares will be used for the solar park, while the remaining 4 hectares will be used for integrating the park into the surrounding landscape.
The solar park will be located next to the Tweekwartweg road and the dike. Vattenfall aims to supply 90% of the green electricity generated by the solar panels to local companies. The remaining 10% of the energy will be supplied to households in the region, which corresponds to the annual power consumption of around 700 households.
