Hollandse Kust Zuid

Hollandse Kust Zuid
Hollandse Kust Zuid is located in the North Sea, 18–36 kilometres off the Dutch coast.

Officially inaugurated in 2023 by King Willem-Alexander, the wind farm is jointly owned by Vattenfall, BASF and Allianz. It marks a milestone in the Netherlands’ energy transition as it is the first offshore wind farm to be developed without government subsidies.

Hollandse Kust Zuid incorporates features that support marine biodiversity, such as varied rock formations and reef structures around the turbine foundations. These elements create habitats for fish, shellfish, and other sea life, turning the wind farm into a thriving underwater ecosystem.

The wind farm is also home to SeaLab, Vattenfall’s innovation hub for sustainable offshore solutions. SeaLab brings together researchers and partners to explore new ways of combining energy production with ecological and food-related initiatives, such as cultivating seaweed between the turbines. These projects demonstrate how offshore wind farms can serve as platforms for achieving broader climate and sustainability goals.
