Hollandse Kust Zuid

Hollandse Kust Zuid
Hollandse Kust Zuid is located in the North Sea, 18–36 kilometers off the Dutch coast.

The wind farm was officially inaugurated in 2023 by King Willem-Alexander and is jointly owned by Vattenfall, BASF, and Allianz. It marks a milestone in the Netherlands’ energy transition, being the first offshore wind farm developed without government subsidies.

Hollandse Kust Zuid incorporates features that support marine biodiversity, such as varied rock formations and reef structures around turbine foundations. These elements create habitats for fish, shellfish, and other sea life, turning the wind farm into a thriving underwater ecosystem.

The wind farm is also home to SeaLab, Vattenfall’s innovation hub for sustainable offshore solutions. SeaLab brings together researchers and partners to explore new ways of combining energy production with ecological and food-related initiatives – like cultivating seaweed between turbines. These projects show how offshore wind farms can serve as platforms for broader climate and sustainability goals.
