In Operation
On the course of the Bode river in the Harz, Wendefurth pumped storage plant began operating in 1968.
It has installed capacity of 80 megawatts (MW) and can reach full power in around two minutes. The upper reservoir can hold around 1.8 million cubic metres of working water, enough for the turbines to run at full load for around six and a half hours. Wendefurth dam, with a total capacity of around nine million cubic metres of water, acts as a lower reservoir. It is part of the Bode dam system, which is operated by "Talsperrenbetrieb Sachsen Anhalt".
