Construction of the Bastusel power plant began in 1969 and was completed three years later.
Bastusel power plant is situated approximately 150 kilometres inland of the Skellefteå River outlet in Bottenviken (the Bay of Bothnia).
Increased safety
As part of Vattenfall's dam safety programme, major investments have been made at Bastusel to ensure that the dam can withstand the extreme water levels expected to occur once every 10,000 years. To achieve this, the height of the dam has been increased and the spillways have been renovated.
