Gotland

Gotland
Gotlands Energi AB is the power company for the island of Gotland. 75% of it is owned by Vattenfall and 25% by Region Gotland. Gotlands Energi supplies district heating in four locations on Gotland: Visby, Slite, Klintehamn and Hemse.

Visby

Gotlands Energi started building its district heating network in Visby in 1982. The district heating in Visby is generated from locally produced forest bio-energy and bio-oil. We also use a combination of sea water and waste water from the sewage treatment works as a source of heat.

In Visby, the coolness of the sea is also used in a district cooling network which supplies a number of properties in the Visborgsstaden area with environmentally-friendly cooling all year round.

Slite

The heat business in Slite started in 1983 with the utilisation of waste heat from Cementa's cement production process. Excess heat from nearby industries is still the main source in Slite's district heating generation.

Hemse and Klintehamn

The district heating in Hemse and Klintehamn is generated from locally produced forest bio-energy.
