In Operation
Vattenfall has operated the Idbäcksverket combined heat and power plant in Nyköping since 1997, supplying approximately 95 per cent of Nyköping's urban area with district heating and electricity.
In 2025, Vattenfall replaced the last fossil fuels of the plant's energy mix with bio-oils. This means that district heating in Idbäcksberket is produced exclusively with fossil-free biofuels. Much of the fuel consists of wood chips from the forestry industry. We also recycle waste wood, which sometimes contains residues of non-fossil-free paint or impregnating agents.
Vattenfall also has a local network in Skavsta, which has a capacity of 5 MW. It is primarily fuelled by wood pellets.
