In Operation
Vattenfall has operated the Idbäcksverket combined heat and power plant in Nyköping since 1997, supplying approximately 95 per cent of Nyköping's urban area with district heating and electricity.
In 2025, the remaining fossil fuels in the plant’s energy mix were replaced with bio-oils. This means that district heating in Idbäcksverket is now produced exclusively using fossil-free biofuels. Much of the fuel consists of wood chips from the forestry industry. We also recycle waste wood, which may contain residues of paints or impregnating agents that are not fossil-free.
Vattenfall Värme also operates a local network in Skavsta, with a capacity of 5 MW. It is primarily fuelled by wood pellets.
