Näverede is the second largest of Vattenfall’s hydro power plants on the Indalsälv river. It was commissioned in 1955. It uses a Kaplan turbine and has a head of 13 metres.
Many of Vattenfall’s hydro power plants were commissioned during the major period of development between 1950 and 1960. Fifty years on, if they are to remain viable in the long term, a number of these power plants must be upgraded. As part of Vattenfall’s renewal programme, Näverede power plant has undergone a number of upgrades to extend its life. Both of the power plant’s units have been upgraded. The turbine has been fitted with a new impeller with an oil-free hub, which reduces the impact on the environment. The plant has also been upgraded in a number of other ways to make it more efficient.
