This solar park on the Hemweg site in Amsterdam has 6,440 solar panels.
As a bondholder, Vattenfall's customers contributed to the construction of this solar park, thus enabling a fossil-free energy production without the need of making their own roofs available. The Hemweg 8 coal fired plant on the site was taken out of operation in December 2019. The location will, among other things, be used for a sustainable industrial energy supply. The project "Together in Sun Amsterdam” (‘Samen in Zon Amsterdam’) complements this main objective very well: a large advantage of realizing a solar park at an existing energy production location is that the existing infrastructure and grid connection can be used more efficiently. In this way, Vattenfall makes optimal use of the rare space in an industrial area.
