Stadsforsen Hydro Power Station is situated on the Indalsälven River and was first commissioned in 1939. In 1952, a third unit was installed, increasing the capacity of the facility. The turbines used are Kaplan turbines with a head (drop) of 29 metres.
In 2005, the third unit at Stadsforsen was refurbished, extending its lifespan and increasing its capacity. Both the older first and second units had been refurbished prior to Unit 3.
As part of Vattenfall’s programme for increased safety at its hydro power stations, investments were made in the Stadsforsen dam in 2006. The investments included increasing the ability to regulate the dam and reducing the amount of maintenance needed.
